Honoring the legacy of Jaqueline and Maurice C. Brown Jr.
A yearly scholarship of $500 is awarded to a senior at Kinston High School with a capacity to become a change agent.
History
In June of 2018, following the passing of Jacqueline M. Brown, Christal Brown and her brother Maurice C. Brown III established the Brown Family Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor the legacy of their parents Jaqueline and Maurice C. Brown Jr.. Maurice who passed in 2001 was a double amputee and purple heart decorated soldier from Vietnam. As a young man Maurice cherished his time on the football field and spending time with family in Jacksonville, FL. After two tours in Vietnam Maurice and Jacquline established themselves in Jacqueline's hometown of Kinston, NC. Maurice quickly became known as a sports fan, mentor, and coach to many aspiring your athletes. Jaqueline pursued community service through schools, community organizations, and subsequently as a County Commissioner for Lenoir County. Jacqueline's passing in 2018 left a void in the Brown family as well as the Kinston community. The Brown Family Memorial Scholarship awards $500 to a senior from Kinston High School who demonstrates their ability to lead, serve, and act with authenticity and humility. The funds being awarded have been graciously donated by friends, family, and supporters. It is our hope that the amount we are able to give continues to grow as support for young leaders and community organizers in the Kinston community develops.
